Empties No.1 - Summer 2012

Natalie5 Comments

I have been on a mission to work my way through my stash of products and have a good clean out of my drawers, cupboards and cabinets. I have decided to save up all of my empties for the past couple of months to make a decent sized post but also because the more empties I have, the more satisfying tipping them all into the bin will be!

Herbal Essences Uplifting Volume Shampoo
In all honesty, I only bought this shampoo because it was on offer and I had run out of my regular one. This was mainly used up by my boyfriend, guests etc. It smelt lovely and didn't disagree with my hair but I probably wouldn't repurchase.
Lee Stafford Hot Shots
Get ready to see the appearance of several Lee Stafford items on my blog as I'm currently working my way through some products which I got in a goody bag. I would never have chosen to buy these Hot Shots and I definitely wouldn't repurchase. They didn't seem to do any particular job (maybe the extra shine would be more noticeable on darker hair) but as there were three in the box and I had to use two just to cover my hair, I wasn't very impressed. Next please.
Lee Stafford Poker Straight Treatment
Again, I wouldn't have chosen to buy this for myself. It did the job of an average conditioner...
Clairol Nice'n Easy ColourSeal Gloss Conditioning Treatment
This is a fantastic product and I already have two more waiting for me in my bathroom cabinet. You can read my full review on this product here.

Original Source Lime Shower Gel
This stuff is to die for. I always buy this when I spot it on offer as it's the only way that I can justify adding another body wash to the stash in my bathroom cabinet. This lime scent is my favourite; green dolly mixtures taste like this smells.
Neom Real Luxury Body Wash
It's no secret that I am a big fan of Neom products. I really enjoyed using this body wash but I probably wouldn't repurchase because of the non-student-friendly price tag. Definitely one for the Christmas List...
You can read my full review on this product here.
St Moriz Tanning Mousse
This is my far the best tanning product that I have ever used and there is already and back-up waiting for me in the cupboard. You can read my full review on this product here.

Good Things Miracle Mattifier
Because my skin changed so drastically and suddenly, I did stop using this product before I reached the very last squirt of this cream but even so, this tube was very generously sized compared to many face creams and I had enjoyed using it for several months. I would recommend it. You can read my full review here.
Boots Tea Tree & Witch Hazel Pore Strips
These pore strips are reasonably priced and do the job well. I haven't use any other brands to compare these with but I have no reason not to recommend them. I will most likely repurchase at some point in the future when my skin has settled down.
Origins Have A Nice Day Lotion - Sample size
I really enjoyed using this product and it is top of my birthday wish list. It smells beautiful and contains an SPF too.
Elemis Herbal Lavender Repair Mask -Sample size
I received this sample after having an Elemis Complexion Analysis (which you can read more about here). I enjoyed having a little pamper with this mask and really like the ingredients which it contains but I probably wouldn't purchase the full sized product for myself.
Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel - Sample size
This product was also recommended to me after having a Complexion Analysis. I have heard fantastic things about this product and I really wanted to love it but it just didn't quite do the job for me. It was a pleasure to use, smelt delicious and I love the limited edition packaging and the cause which it is supporting but understandably, I can't justify buying it on those grounds alone.
Elemis SOS Emergency Cream - Sample size
I am very glad that the generous lady on the Elemis counter gave me two sachets of this product to try and I loved it and having the extra amount of the product to experiment with has been really helpful. If you every suffer from skin imperfections or sensitivity I would recommend this product. I really like the soothing properties of the lavender in it. I would like to point out though that it is advertised as being a good make up base but actually as it is a very balm-like texture, it did encourage my make up to 'cake'. I would really like to buy this to use as a night cream.
Boots Tea Tree & Witch Hazel Toning Lotion
I have repurchased this product more times than I can count and several times more than any other skincare product which I have ever owned. Despite the fact that I already had a spare in the cupboard, I am not currently using this product as I find that when I have a flare up, the alcohol in this product is not conducive to minimising redness. Even so, for skin which is not sensitive or overly dry, I would definitely recommend this.
Boots Botanics Facial Loofahs
These are a good idea but I prefer to use a Muslin Cloth or a good quality liquid/cream exfoliator instead.

Cutex Strengthening Nail Polish Remover
This was a pretty efficient nail polish remover, a well recognised brand and it did the job. I haven't repurchased it though as I have decided to try another Cutex product within the range this time.
Colgate Max Fresh Night Toothpaste
I know it may seem a little unexpected to drop a toothpaste into the mix (or not?) but I did really like this toothpaste more than any other I have used and I definitely noticed a fresher feeling when I woke up in the morning. I have already repurchased this.
Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara
This was a good mascara but as I have never found my perfect, go-to mascara (has anyone?) I would rather continue to try new products than repurchase this even though it was a perfectly good product and my mum did comment on my eyelashes looking 'more noticeable' the last day that I used it.
Blistex Relief Cream
This is the holy grail of lip products. I could not survive without it in winter and even in summer, it's perfect for dry or burned lips. I will generally use it year round at least as a night treatment for my lips to maintain their good condition. Although I'm not a sufferer myself, this is well recommended for treating cold sores too.

I threw out quite a lot of products this month in my summer clear out to make space for the new edition to my make up station (check out my make up products and storage here).
Products that I got rid of included various fake tans which have lived in my cupboard for too many years, a Paul Mitchell hair conditioner which had lost all scent and turned a funny texture, various dried up mascaras, separated nail polishes and crumbled eye shadows.

I hope you have enjoyed an insight into all of the products which I have finished up in my first ever empties post. It has been a very satisfying couple of months and I look forward to empties post #2!
